Going through the motions

Going through the motions,
Day in and day out.
Time slips away
As we waste away to greed.

Money motivates,
but money isn’t spent
When you work all the days
just to pay your rent.

With nothing left over
And nothing left to save,
You’re going through the motions
To fight another day.

Is the money really worth it?
Do we need all of these things?
Can we break free of the motions –
To pursue far better things?

To risk the unknown
Live without assurance
But the money we earn
Leaves us a little poorer.

The important things slip by
As we forget the need
To take hold of these moments,
Instead of of living for greed.

Going through the motions,
Day in and day out.
Time slips away
To the corporate machine.
